Honeymoon in Cuzco

The magic of Cusco is ideal to celebrate special moments. In this post, Christelle presents two hotels that have everything to pamper yourselves.

The Ideal Place: Manco Capac Palace

On the top of Cuzco, above the San Cristobal Temple, where the sunset can be seen, hidden behind a forest of eucalyptus trees, find the 5 rooms of the Manco Capac Palace. 450 years ago it was a Republican ranch which served as a checkpoint, where Simon Bolivar once slept (the original headboard he used remains in room 3). From the period of the Incas, there is a door made of large stone blocks, giving the garden a touch of mystery.

The rooms are flirty, with baroque details: huge carved and painted cabinets, rococo headboards and golden mirrors. It has a homey atmosphere. Now that´s a challenge: to make a luxurious residence a place where you can also feel at home. As you enjoy a hot tea on the plush sofas in the living room, you can view the beautiful paintings of the Cuzco School and the thousands of details in the decoration. This is also the ideal place to connect to WiFi, which also reaches up to your room.

The dining room is friendly and informal: tables, a large sofa with cushions, offering food with simple and comforting flavors. The vegetables come from the organic garden behind the house. Wonton soup with fresh shrimp is a delight. In the morning, breakfast has the same spirit: a table with cereals, fruit, fresh whole wheat bread and table service. They serve until noon, if by chance you fall a bit behind, enjoying your great king size bed, the warm Spanish shower or if you get stuck watching a movie on the flat screen, wrapped in your bathrobe. I recommend taking a walk through the garden accompanied by the smell of eucalyptus and enjoying the panoramic views or go up to SacshayhuamĂĄn located a few minutes away.

The Manco Capac Palace is the perfect place for couples to relax and pamper themselves. The service is personalized for each guest, it works great! Although it opened only a year ago, it was given second place by travelers on TripAdvisor.

Ideal for: Lovers of silence, looking for a warm and stylish accommodation.

The best room: The Balcony Suite, with its carved wooden balconies and 350ft2.

The Ideal City Hotel: Atiq Boutique

The Atiq Boutique is a little, centralized hotel that pays attention to every detail, has personalized service and offers a different kind of experience. Firstly, it is located within walking distance from the Qorikancha Temple and from your terrace, you can see the gardens and the temple behind.

Secondly, it is located in the heart of Cusco, nested in a cocoon of contemporary design, with only 9 rooms. The building is new and tall, with light and airy spaces, and a roof that lets in natural light. All the hallways are decorated with soft gray, fuchsia and orange carpets, complementing the photographs on the wall or the details of the cafe.

In the rooms, there are hardwood floors and thick rugs, lamps, golden framed mirrors, Baroque touches and spectacular creations from the artist, Federico Bauer. Flat screen TV´s are optional and there is Internet available to plug into (the faster option) and WiFi. There are queen or king size beds available, 8 types of pillows and 500 thread count silky sheets. The bathroom is definitely a plus. The Suite Atiq has a Jacuzzi and the Double Junior Suite has a Jacuzzi on an outdoor patio, under a transparent roof. The staff is available 24 hours a day to prepare your hot bath with mineral salts.

A few more details: good quality clothes hangers, slippers and bathrobes, “Jardín Zen” beauty products, elegant teapot in room, mini bar and room service. Here, the cuisine is simple and tasty, with a selection of sandwiches, juices, soups and entrees (lomo saltado, grilled chicken, pasta). Breakfast is served in the bright dining room: fruit salad, eggs, bread, coffee, juices or tea. We suggest that you try an aguaymanto or sauco cheesecake, it´s ideal to start a great day. The day we visited, a tourist gave Marcel (the hotel owner) a small gift before leaving. What better proof of satisfaction?

Ideal for: lovers of comfort, design and those who want everything nearby.

The best room: Suite Atiq for its terrace and the Jacuzzi or the Double Junior Suite for the outside Jacuzzi and the view of the Qorikancha Temple.
